Giving wedding favours is an old tradition where the bride and groom give a small token of thanks to their guests and families for celebrating their wedding day with them. Back in the old days, guests would traditionally be given five sugared almonds to represent fertility, longevity, wealth, health, and happiness.
Today, many couples like to be more creative with their wedding favours, whilst others choose not to have favours at all and use that money elsewhere for the wedding. By no means is it essential to give your guests favours, but should you wish to thank your guests through a small gift, we've come up with a list of 15 of our favourites which are a bit different:
You could have a chic tea leaves bar where guests could make up their own chosen tea blend, or get in touch with a tea specialist to create a bespoke tea blend which represents you as a couple.
2. TEA CUPS
Get mismatched teacups, and give your male guests a more masculine design and your female guests something more dainty and pretty. There are also teacup candles filled with wax which are very beautiful.
3. DESSERT TABLE
Why not let your guests fill a beautiful bag of sweet treats from a pick 'n' mix style dessert table? You could make an elegant display of sweets incorporating your colour scheme or theme.
4. LOTTERY TICKET
Treat your guests to a lucky dip lottery ticket! Present this in a beautiful card or roll it up to look like a message in a bottle.
5. DONATE TO CHARITY
If you're a couple that doesn't agree with spending money on wedding favours, you might consider donating to one of your favourite charities on behalf of your guests. Let your guests know by giving them a pin and a note of the donation. Wedding designers Suzanne Neville and Jenny Packham each have signature pins which they created especially for Cancer Research UK.
Provide your guests with sparklers to light a pathway for your departure. Guests love the interactivity, and it makes a beautiful image for your send off!
Your adult male guests will enjoy celebrating your wedding with a cigar. Customise each cigar with a label with the wedding date or your initials.
There is something really luxurious about macarons! Spoil your guests with a box or French jar of a few of these pretty delicacies in your favourite flavour(s) or colour(s).
Why not symbolise your new marriage in the form of seeds? Let your guests grow their own flowers, herbs or chilli plant.
You can't go wrong with chic bath salts, luxurious soaps or mini fragrances. Pick something fruity or floral for your female guests, and something more spicy or musky for the men.
11. LUXURY CHOCOLATES
Have some bespoke, fresh chocolates or truffles made to order which suits your wedding theme and taste.
12. GOURMET MARSHMALLOWS
We can vouch for the tastiness of these gourmet marshmallows by The Marshmallowists. They are incredibly fluffy, beautiful and delicious!
If you choose to host a seasonal wedding, it would be a great idea to serve small bottles of Champagne at a New Year's Eve wedding, or give each guest a beautiful bauble at a Christmas wedding.
Depending on the time of year of your wedding, you may choose to give your guests a blanket to stay warm, a parasol to shelter them from the sun or rain, or fun sunglasses if it's very sunny.
15. GIFT CARD
Indulge your guests with a gift card from one of your favourite department stores. Harrods is an especially fabulous treat if you feel like spoiling them!
