INSPIRATION: SOMETHING BLUE
We love our more "modern" brides that are always looking for the latest trends to follow. That said, we cannot help but enjoy some of the more traditional elements associated with weddings that many brides still follow. The “something blue” tradition has to be one of our favourites. Brides can explore a variety of fun ways to incorporate “something blue” into their wedding, and below are some ideas which we hope will inspire you!
Embellishing Your Wedding Gown: A little accent added to your beautiful gown could be a very subtle way to add "something blue". This can be done discretely with a few clear blue buttons, a little blue ribbon or by stitching your initials and wedding date on the inner lining of your dress. We've even known a bride to sew a small heart cut out from one of her father's old blue shirts!
Jewellery: A chic way to add blue to your look is through your jewellery, either with topaz, aquamarine or sapphires. We're particularly fond of the below bespoke sapphire and diamond drop earrings, and sapphire, diamond and baroque pearl drop earrings made by Lulu Kachoo. You can read more about her fabulous jewellery in our interview with her here.
Bridesmaids: You could pop your bridesmaids in beautiful shades of blue. Blue is meant to be a calming colour, which is most probably why it's such a popular choice for a bridesmaid. Just look at how elegant these mix-and-match powder blue dresses look!
Nail Varnish: An alternative option would be to paint your fingers or toe nails a beautiful shade of soft blue. Essie even do a gorgeous very pale blue shade, aptly called Borrowed & Blue!
Hair Accessory: You could add a subtle blue hair pin to your hair just like Anne Hathaway in Bride Wars, or be quite extravagant à la Sarah Jessica Parker's blue bird in her hair from the Sex & The City film.
Blue Garter / Lingerie: The garter is another long-standing tradition. People choose all different types and styles of garters to wear under their gown. A simple and elegant way to incorporate “something blue” into your wedding is to have a touch of blue on your garter. Alternatively, you may want to surprise your groom with gorgeous blue lingerie for your wedding night!
Something Blue Perfume by Oscar de la Renta: If you prefer not to wear anything blue, a great alternative is Oscar de la Renta’s Something Blue fragrance that he made specifically for the nuptials. Also, the beautiful blue top is made of a rare gemstone called Larimar that can only be found in Mr de la Renta's native Dominican Republic.
Blue Wedding Car: Yet another unique "something blue" option may be to arrive in style in a blue vehicle of your choice. We are charmed by this navy 1985 Bentley S1!
Bridal Bouquet: Consider having a small blue ribbon wrapped around your bouquet with a (blue?) charm of sentimental value, or add a touch of blue accent flowers to your floral arrangement. This soft blue hydrangea blends in beautifully with this white bouquet.
Bridal Shoes: Why not take another leaf out of Carrie Bradshaw’s book with her iconic blue Manolo Blahnik satin pumps that Big gave her when he proposed. Who wouldn’t want to walk down the aisle in those shoes?
